Squaw Valley Ski is one of the leading and biggest ski resorts in the United States. It is located in Olympic Valley in California. The area in which the resort is located receives a snow fall rising up to 40 feet or more annually. It boasts to be the second largest ski resort in Lake Tahoe. It is 3,600 acres large and it has the only funitel in the area. It takes pride at being the host site for the 1960 Olympics. The resort also hosted four events in the 1969 World Cup. It has recently combined with Alpine Meadows to create a new area of about 6,200 acres. It now has 270 trails, 43 lifts and a total skiable area of 4,000 acres. It attracts up to about 600,000 snow divers annually.
It has a base of 1,890 meters, a skiable space of about 15 kilometers squared which run through six peaks. Its highest peak is at about 2,760 meters and is called Granite Chief. Its above ground tramway is about 610m to a high camp rising up to an altitude of 2,500m. When at the high camp one has access to various resort facilities including swimming pool, dining area, shopping and golf. The mountain is divided into two parts: the Lower Mountain which up to an elevation of 6,200m and the Upper Mountain with a height of 8,200m. The resort however flows entirely on runs and chairlifts all year round and these sub-divisions are arbitrary.
Squaw Valley hosts a few summer events every year. It brings specialized yoga trainers and well known musical performers every July without fail. The resort also plays host to a wide range of concerts including beer and wine festivals, jazz and Blues festivals.
Andy Wirth is the current CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Resort. Andy has been in the resort business for a little over 24 years. He became CEO of Squaw Valley in 2010. He is a Colorado State University graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Science. He has also attended Scottish Edinburgh University. He is an award winning CEO with many recognitions such as Chairman’s Outstanding Service Award. Last year he was recognized by Disabled Sports USA as the Citizen of the Year. He is the man responsible for the merger between Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows and he is the current CEO to both resorts. The company has also seen a $70 billion upgrade under his leadership.
