An Interview with Canadian Entrepreneur Louis Chenevert

Louis is a Canadian businessman who is the previous Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of the United Technologies Corporation. He has had an intense influence on many commercial organizations where he has worked. Louis became a very successful entrepreneur because he always knew what he wanted and worked even harder to achieve more. He came from a humble background and worked his way up the success ladder.

How did you start your career?

Louis began his career after getting a degree in Production Management from HEC Montreal and started working at General Motors at St. Therese, Quebec. His employer was very impressed with his work and never regretted ever hiring him. He later put Louis in charge of the General Motors assembly line in Montreal. Due to the fact that Louis and his employer, Hachey were almost of the same age, and the hard work of Louis, every time Hachey got promoted, he promoted Louis to replace the gap he has left.

He later got an opportunity to move to another field, thanks to Pratt & Whitney, an aerospace manufacturer who saw the great work he had done in General Motors. Louis guided the company to a greater success by improving the processes. Louis was then elected as the company’s president.

What is the origin of United Technologies Corporation (UTC)?

After working with General Motors for a long time, Louis changed and moved on to a completely diverse industry. According to Louis, he got many ideas from important senior managers and tactical small groups in a small crew. These groups had an intense background of familiarizing with the needs of customers and a desire to deliver 30-year cycle products that were game changers.

When working at UTC, Louis paid attention to operating skill and engineering which were of key benefit to conveying ideas that would, in turn, produce results that surpassed customers’ anticipations.

P&W was a subordinate of UTC which was an international company that worked with both the military and civilian economics and produces a wide range of products like aircraft engines, elevators, and HVAC among others. In 2006, Louis Chenevert was elected as the chairman of the corporation and later climbed to being a CEO. He has had a great impact on the company processes and production.

Randy Ray and Wendy Lewis continue incredible journey to success with Jeunesse Global

The Jeunesse Global story would be hard to believe if one didn’t know it was the honest truth. Founded by a retired Florida couple in 2009, Jeunesse Global started as a tiny hobby operation run out of the garage of Randy Ray and Wendy Lewis. The couple had grown restless with the long hours of boredom that are inherent to the retired life. To pass the time, they started selling a few health and beauty products.

Nine years later, Jeunesse Global ranks among the most important health and beauty companies in the world. With over 10,000 distributors and hundreds of millions of dollars in annual sales, the company has gone from casual pastime to one of the largest private companies in the state of Florida. This raises the question of how a pair of retired snowbirds could have possibly created such a phenomenally successful company.

Looking a little closer at Randy Ray and Wendy Lewis, however, it quickly becomes apparent that these two were no ordinary retirees. In fact, both Lewis and Ray had become legendary throughout the North American direct-marketing industry for their many successful ventures. Ray had acquired the reputation as being one of the most capable salesmen and recruiters in the business while Lewis was known to be one of the most innovative product developers and businesswomen in the health and beauty space.

So, when the couple decided to start a hobby business as a way to pass the time, they had a few considerable advantages. Jeunesse was able to quickly grow as a result of Ray quickly bringing on board some of the most accomplished distributors in the business. With top talent selling both the company’s products and its business plan, Jeunesse was able to spread like wildfire throughout many parts of the world.

At the same time, Lewis began developing what would become the Youth Enhancement System, a package of health and beauty products that promised to revolutionize the way people approach shopping for their health and beauty needs.

Today, Jeunesse continues to grow. It is currently one of the top health and beauty sellers in East Asia and is not far behind in the Americas.

The Innovation And Vision of Louis Chenevert

United Technologies Corporation is a success story where so much manufacturing in the United States has not survived due to the growth of the global economy. And the success of UTC is largely due to Louis Chenevert who recently stepped down as UTC’s CEO.

Chenevert earned a degree in production management from HEC Montreal, the Canadian business school in 1979. From there he worked for General Motors where he was general production manager and he then moved to Pratt & Whitney Canada in 1993. He became vice president of operations and in 1999 he became president. Then in 2006, he moved onto UTC as the chief operating officer, president, and director.

Pratt & Whitney is a UTC company that produced the geared turbofan engine and Chenevert had the vision that this engine was going to be part of the future of jet engines because it reduced fuel consumption by 16% and emissions by 50%. It is now utilized by 14 airlines.

He also oversaw the acquisition of Goodrich Corporation for UTC principally for its production of aircraft components, namely the aviation landing systems. This expanded their market share.

Rather than move operations overseas, Chenevert moved UTC to Connecticut because he feels that cheap labor produces cheap products. All of the top minds and workers were centralized and focused rather than spread across the country and the world.

During his time at UTC he invested in the people working there through the Employee Scholar Program in order to encourage employees to pursue lifelong learning because he recognizes the company’s success depends on its employees’ success. UTC employees have earned over 39,000 degrees through the scholarship program.

In 2014, Chenevert announced he was stepping down as CEO of UTC. This surprised many because of UTC’s ongoing success. Now enjoying semi-retirement and pursuing his passion, engineering and designing yachts while working part time as an exclusive advisor for Goldman Sachs.

Stream Energy Consistently Shows It Cares

In a recent article on Dallas Patch, the philanthropic efforts of Stream Energy were recently summarized. Stream Energy is a direct-sales energy company based out of Dallas, Texas. They have a philanthropic branch called Stream Cares.

Through its philanthropic branch, the company has been providing aid to victims of Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey struck the coast of Texas in late August of 2017. The storm caused record-breaking flooding in parts of the state.

Stream Energy is also providing aid to the homeless population in Dallas, where the company is based. Through Stream Cares, the company has partnered with a company called Hope Supply Co. Through this partnership, the corporation has been able to provide aid to over 1,000 homeless children in North Texas.

With Hope, Stream Cares has been able to sponsor water park trips for homeless children. In addition to the fun trips, the partnership is also able to provide supplies for the children in need. They are able to provide diapers, school supplies, and more necessities. Stream Energy has been in partnership with Hope Supply Co. for over four years.

Another example of the philanthropic efforts of Stream Energy is from 2016. The day after Christmas that year tornados struck multiple areas in North Texas. In response, associates of the company rushed to raise funds for the Salvation Army to provide aid to the area. The company matched the thousands of dollars the associates raised.

Through Stream Cares, the company also has been able to provide aid to military veterans in the Dallas area. Through an effort called “Operation Once in a Lifetime”, they have been able to provide different meals and events to veterans and their families. The company stresses doing activities over simply giving money.

There are many benefits of philanthropic work for a corporation. It can help improve the image of the company. It can be a tax write-off. It can be useful whenever there are scandals or lay-offs.

However, Stream Energy has consistently demonstrated it is truly altruistic with its efforts. The company’s associates are fueled by passion. Through Stream Cares, they are truly making a difference in the Dallas area and beyond.
