David Mcdonald, OSI Group President

Mr. David McDonald is the President and Chief Operating Officer of OSI Group/Industries, the world’s leading manufacturer, packager and distributor of customized foods.

Born in Iowa, David McDonald grew up and helped with chores on his family’s farm when he was a younger.

Later on, he enrolled into the Iowa State University, where he received honors and a Bachelor’s in Animal Science.

After graduating, he moved to Chicago and began working for OSI Group/Industries. He progressed until he landed in the current roles as President and COO.

David McDonald is committed to making sure OSI Group/Industries maintain its sustainability.

Some actions the company is taking are…

*Supporting sustainable fishing by purchasing only 100 percent Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified Alaskan Pollock from reputable suppliers…This is an administration that is concerned with protecting the oceans and making sure they remain abundant in sea life.

*Purchasing certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) for their products. Certified sustainable palm oil is grown in the Amazon on land that has no wildlife or essential plants and meets the stringent standard of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) organization.

* Teaching farmers in India, how to preserve the fertility and productivity of their land… This is a program spearheaded by OSI Group/Industries after discovering studies stating the farmer’s soil had a nutrient imbalance from various issues, such as misapplication of fertilizers and erosion.

David McDonald also has sustainable systems in place for the animals, including the cattle, pigs and chickens.

In the meantime, OSI Food Group/Industries is expanding around the globe. It has more than 65 facilities in 17 countries and employs roughly 20,000.

His intentions are to continue to grow the enterprise by working with his business partners to acquire and improve additional facilities and joint ventures with other food services companies.

When he is not busy with OSI business, David is supporting different causes.

He was the reason OSI Group/Industries gave 252,000 pounds of meat from its North American plants to the Food Banks in this country. The donation made life a little more bearable for those who had financial issues because of the economy.

He is a big supporter of Iowa State University, which includes Alpha Gamma Rho, his fraternity.

In 2004, McDonald was presented with the ISU’s Young Alumni Award.

Mr. David McDonald and his wife Malinda live in Warrenville, Illinois and have six children. Two are students at Iowa State University and the four has plans to follow in the same tradition.
